Arizona Western College SBDC Wins SBA Award

The AZSBDC Network is proud to be associated with winners in two categories of the prestigious U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) Awards for the State of Arizona. The Arizona Western College SBDC has been named Arizona Small Business Development Center of the Year for its excellence in providing value to small businesses and advancing program delivery and management through innovation. The AWC team includes Center Director Randy Nelson and Business Analysts Sandra Hernandez, Alan Pruitt and Vanessa Blackburn. Microbusiness Advancement Center (MAC) Executive Director Debbie Chandler has been chosen as the Arizona Women in Business Champion of the Year. MAC is the host of the Microbusiness Advancement Center SBDC in Tucson, a member of the AZSBDC Network. The awards will be presented at the 18th Annual Enterprise Business Awards Luncheon, which will be held at the Arizona Biltmore on May 5. The 2011 Success Awards will take place at the Arizona State Capitol. Speaker of the House Kirk Adams will be the featured speaker. Arizona Capitol Times Publisher Ginger Lamb will serve as emcee. The owners of the 15 impressive winning companies will be the stars. They include: Master Award Winner Guidance Aviation of Prescott; Yuma Vision Center of Yuma; Studio 3 Beauty Designs of Casa Grande; Intelligence, Communications & Engineering, Inc. of Sierra Vista; Diablo Burger of Flagstaff; Vining Funeral Home, Safford; Dream Manor Inn, Globe; Sentinel Fence, LLC of Scottsdale; Sokikom, Chandler; W. J. AZSBDC Receives Full Jobs Initiative Grant

The AZSBDC Network has been awarded a $837,632 Jobs Initiative Grant from the U.S. Small Business Administration. The funds became available as a result of the recently enacted Small Business Jobs Act of 2010, which includes nearly $50 million over the next two years for Small Business Development Centers across the U.S. The AZSBDC applied for the funds and received a 100% award of the allotment that we originally announced in January. Our efforts will focus on helping Arizona’s small businesses create and retain jobs — two critical factors in facilitating economic recovery at the community, county and state level. This one-time grant to the AZSBDC will enable us to: Offer specialized statewide training in financial education to 200 business owners; Expand counseling services to Native Americans by expanding service on the White Mountain Apache reservation; Expand counseling services to second-stage businesses with high growth potential; Increase specialized counseling for Veteran and Service Disabled Veteran-Owned businesses, Clean Technology firms, 8(a) businessses and government contracting; Expand services in under-served rural areas with high unemployment and few entrepreneurship resources; Collaborate with a nearby SBDC network to share expertise and best practices in serving such communities.   AZSBDC Center Directors worked with the State Office team to identify programs that were ‘ready to …
